About Us:

Greater Mumbai Badminton Association is the district body that governs badminton activities in Mumbai city district and has a rich history of nurturing multiple national and international badminton stars over the years.

Brief history:

The first attempt to form a badminton association started way back in 1937 when a Sub-Committee called the Bombay Presidency Olympic Association was formed under the chairmanship of RFS Talyarkhan.

The committee conducted the first Western India Badminton Championship at the Wellington Sports Club the same year.

On Aug 4, 1938, 12 clubs and gymkhanas in the city came together to formally form the Bombay Presidency Olympic Association, which was dissolved in 1942 to form a new association called ‘The Bombay Provincial Badminton Association’.

In 1969, following the government’s one state one association rule, the association was renamed Greater Bombay Badminton Association, which is now called Greater Mumbai Badminton Association.
